hi! i was binge-watching the series today and i was very pleasantly surprised to find out that you are an web designer and artist as well as an actor! as someone interested in web design, i was wondering how you got into both areas and if they relate or link in any way? thanks! :D
hi! thanks for the question. (i’m a doctor who fan too… I assume you are by your tumblr alias :)
The beauty of web design is that it markets itself. I was self-taught (via books, but now there are things like lynda.com). When I started, I did a website for myself and 3 or 4 free websites for friends. My portfolio was built and then word spread. To this day, websites pay my bills, it’s essentially my day job… for now.
I wish I had more time for my art, but I found that there are tons of websites that will handle product creation and distribution while I just have to create illustrator files, which is nice.
As for how web design and acting might relate? Well, I do a lot of actor websites, which helps a little as far as networking. I am able to save money on making my own website (though it majorly needs updating). But really, it’s a “thrival job” and once I am able to make ends meet via acting, I will drop it. For Peter and Wendy the production (re: me) was abel to save thousands of dollars on graphic design and web design, because I knew how to do it.
